Weak springs? Here is an easy way to help your tired springs lift your top:
(see pictures below)
You can order your lifting struts from:
www.allegiscorp.com | Door Assists and Gas Spring Mounting Hardware
Purchasing two 20 pound lift gas lifters will produce 20lbs of lift and not 40lbs. If you have a plastic top I would order an AC8720 or AC8730 (depending on how weak your springs are) with a stud hole to fit a 5/16th bolt.
If you have our fiberglass tops I would suggest an AC8730 or AC8740 (depending on how weak your springs are) with a stud hole to fit an 5/16th bolt. I am only suggesting these struts. If you make the struts too strong then you will be placing too much stress on your rollers, lifting arms and wood sub-frame. You could damage your top with too strong of a lifting strut.

Marshmallow Date 1
We have a new campfire recipe we would love for you to try out.
Tired of S’mores? Here is a great substitute:
Ingredients:
Large Marshmallows
Dates
Long steel BBQ rods
Fire
Procedure:
Place the marshmallow on the rod first and push it down to make room for the Date. Slide date onto rod on top of marshmallow. Roast both over fire embers (stay away from the flames) until the marshmallow turns golden brown, starts to puff up and the center becomes very soft. Take your time, this takes several minutes. You want to also get the date nice and soft. Be careful not to burn your marshmallow or lose the date to the fire!

Marshmallow Date 2
When your Marshmallow has puffed up, slowly slide the Marshmallow over the date.
Put the whole thing in your mouth and enjoy.
Be careful because it is very hot!
We need a name for this Date – Mallow Recipe!
We thought of “Date in a blanket” or “S’more buster”.
If you could give us some suggestions that would be great!

Wow! I received the awning this past Friday, got around to install it on Sunday. I did modify your stainless mounting plates by bending them into somewhat of a 90 degree. Then was able to mount them to my cross bars and it went well.
After getting it installed I opened it up once again but this time was for setup. I am extremely impressed with the quality of this product.
Thank You
Aaron H.

Question from Kep K.
———————
Subject: Pop Top
Hello,
I’d like any info concerning availability of entire pop-tops – the Country Homes Campers type.
I have an ’86 Country Homes weekender type Vanagon and want to add a CHC pop-top to my ’86 syncro.
Does anyone install Country Homes poptops any more? Not interested in camp equipment inside, just the pop top!
Also do you sell replacement rubber trim for edge of your poptops. I need it for my ’86 country homes camper.
Also were there pop tops offered in more than one height? (when raised)?
I noticed in your pictures two children sitting up in the pop top. Our
’86 country home doesn’t open up that high.
Any help/leads would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kep
Answer from Country Homes Campers
———————————
Dear Kep,
to order a seal you can go to Go Westy or Van Cafe and order one.
When you order from Van-Cafe make sure it is for the Country Homes and not the Westfalia.
Here are the links:
http://www.van-cafe.com
http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=2493&category_id=139
All our tops opened at the same height. You may need new springs. You can talk to Jerry McCavitt about getting new springs.
Our Vanagon Pop Top molds were sold to Jerry McCavitt. He is currently building these pop tops.
His information is at:
http://www.countryhomescampers.com/mold.html
Also Dave Jordan installs pop tops.
Dave lives in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Question from Steve B.
———————–
Can these vanagon tops be placed on a dodge sprinter?
How much do these pop tops weigh?
Answer from Country Homes Campers:
Hello Steve,
I am not sure if our top can be modified to fit a Sprinter. Anything is possible.
Have you tried these companies:
www.sportsmobile.com
www.gtrv.com
www.safaricondo.com
They all build nice tops.
Good Luck,
Salim M
